Development Communication Society Programs
The Development Communication Society (DCS) supports different activities as an avenue for students to learn, grow, and understand more on what is it to be and Development Communication Student.
DCS had conducted and initiated several community-related activities to extend assistance to those who are in need. The activities have been initially conducted in the locality and nearby areas only, however, the DCS is already expanding its helping hand.
Story Telling Caravan (STC)
Stories of Alapo is the Information Education Communication campaign of the organization to the school children.
Later on evolved to producing a learning kit composed of storybooks, digital story, and dramatized audio materials audio materials to support the indigenization of curriculum program of Department of Education.
The DCS realized that the threats to folk stories like disinterestedness; and death of knowledgeable elders, are also community concerns that should be approached holistically.
While the Department of Education is now implementing the campaign of folk stories with the aid of the learning kit, spontaneous campaigns in the communities shall likewise be done to have a broader sense of community.
DCS had been going in some part Benguet like; Atok, Kabayan, Itogon, Tublay and Kapangan for the Story Telling Caravan in partnership with community. The latest Story Telling Caravan was in Lao-angan, Kapangan on April 13,2019.
Loving out Loud (LOL)
The LOL is an annual outreach activity that spreads the spirit of sharing among the members of the organization and community as well through gift giving. It serves as a venue for students to harness spirit of volunteerism and sense of responsibility. It started way back 2011.
It proceeds with collection of materials such as clothing, footwear, and learning materials that will be endowed the role in the transitioning of communities and unfolding if individual potential.
Some of the community outreach that the DCS participated are:
YOURS– Project Yolanda Outreach for Unity and Responsive Service was initiated in Partnership BSU Supreme Students Government and other student organizations to raise funds for the purchase of goods-water, food and medicines-which were distributed to families and survivors of the super typhoon Yolanda which caused devastation in Eastern Visayas in 2013.
TUGON PARA SA ITOGON– An initiative of BSU Organization. The DCS is part of it which initiated to raise funds for the purchase of goods-water, food, medicine-for our fellowmen in Itogon, Benguet affected by Typhoon Ompong in 2018. It helped encourage our brethren rebuild their homes and communities.
DevCom Week Celebration
There are set of activities during the weeklong celebration of DevCom Week. These are celebrated both by students, faculty, and alumni .
These are the activities:
Competitions: Sets of activities are done like: Quiz Bee, Photography and Video Competitions, Mugs and Ecobag Design Competition, and Lay-outing competitions.
DevCom Kapistahan: Various games are played between students, faculty, and alumni every 5-6 pm for a week.
DevCom Night: It’s the socialization of students, faculty and alumni. It also the awarding of winners to the participants during DevCom Week.
Lecture Series/Seminar/Training- Workshops: Invited speakers were alumni and partner agencies.
Film Viewing: Different videos by the students are usually presented.
General Assemblies and Election
The Gen As for the DCS happens twice a school year. Election of officers usually happens before the end of the second semester. For the positions of President and Vice President, they should be a 3rd or 4th year student and not an officers of other organizations. However, for the other positions interested students from all year levels are qualified.
Income Generating Project (IGP)
DCS are also doing IGP to generate income and additional funds for DCS which would be utilized for planned activities. It also helps DCS members in entrepreneurial skills. Some of this are: Busking, Film Showing and Selling of snacks.
It’s the socialization of students, faculty and alumni during the 1st Semester. It is also a party to welcome the 1st year students. Further, the Turn Over and Induction of the Outgoing and Incoming Officers are done.
